PRESENCE
Before identity, before resistance, there is simply the act of remaining present.
Golem of Presence represents the earliest solid manifestation within The Golem series. The moment where existence becomes undeniable. The figure does not yet carry the extreme fragmentation or exposed violence of later works. Instead, it stands in a quieter but equally significant state: the burden of simply existing.
The body appears heavy, grounded, and enduring. The surface carries subtle fractures, stitched repairs, and embedded interruptions, suggesting that even the earliest stages of presence are shaped by damage, adaptation, and survival. The crown-like wires emerging
from the head suggest awareness extending outward thought, perception, and consciousness beginning to radiate into the surrounding world.
They evoke both illumination and tension, as if presence itself creates exposure. Chains wrapped across the body imply the weight of lived experience, inherited structures, and emotional restraint. Yet the chains do not fully immobilise the figure. The Golem remains upright, carrying the tension rather than collapsing beneath it.
One leg is partially enclosed in industrial mesh, introducing the recurring language of containment that continues throughout the wider series. The figure exists between freedom and restriction, visibility and protection. The absence of a mouth removes conventional expression.
Presence is communicated through posture, surface, and endurance rather than speech. The sculpture suggests that existence itself can
become testimony. As one of the foundational works within the series, Golem of Presence marks the beginning of embodiment the first recognition that vulnerability is not weakness, but proof of survival.
